Assault with a Deadly Chip

First of all, let me apologise for two anti-artificial intelligence posts in one day. It wasn't something I planned, but a story caught my eye about AI detection gone awry.

A sixteen year old kid was at school scarfing down a pack of Doritos, when the detection system courtesy of some place called Omnilert went into overdrive.

Suddenly police were all over the place, guns drawn, and the student cuffed after being ordered on to his knees. That's when they found the crumpled up empty chip packet. I suppose the scenario played out could be viewed as efficiency on the part of the police.

But what about the software?

Earlier this year, in January, tragedy struck when detection provided by the same company failed to notice shooter presence at a school in Nashville, Tennessee.
